how to know you're actually changing

hey, mau here

so, been a week since i been in Japan with my mom.

and while it's been amazing…

it's brought up a few things.

so as you know (or don't know) – i left home and moved to Bali 14 months ago to build everything i've built now.

but the truth is,

building is never about the actual thing you build. it's about who you become in the process.

the only reason i've had 2 of the best back-to-back months in my life/business isn't because i 'unlocked' some magical skill or hack...

it's because of who i am now.

you see,

over the last year i've gone through an insane identity shift.

when i first moved to Bali and launched my first cohort –

i didn't believe anybody would actually pay me money online – let alone be comfortable selling, marketing, and offering things.

so of course, my first program i priced incredibly low...

but after that actually went well…

and i saw how much it helped people…

i slowly got more confident in who i am and the value i had to offer.

but not only that…

my habits changed.

what i prioritize changed. how i spend my days, my mornings… my money. my time.

how i view myself. how i talk to myself.

EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED.

and for me to get to where i am just in the last two months...

i had to cultivate my own energy every single day.

but now that i'm here,

sharing space with my mom…

i don’t have the same space to cultivate my own energy.

and because i haven't seen her since i've stepped into the 'new me'…

i notice how slowly –

if i'm not careful… it's easy to morph back into my old identity.

not FULLY. but enough to notice it.

that, on top of just not having my own time + space to do my 2 hour meditations – sitting, walking, reading, praying, gratitude, visualizations, etc.

(i did today btw)

but here's the thing....

as i start slipping too far from who i've become, i get super anxious.

which might sound bad...

but it's not.

this anxiety pushes me back to my new 'baseline'.

which, today –

was waking up early, doing my morning routine… and coming to a cafe to get to work.

and even though i'm in this tender place of sinking into the 'new me' –

i'm noticing how i'm much more 'here' than 'there'...

because the crazy thing about shifting your identity is...

whenever you fully become this person,

you don't have to FORCE yourself to act like them.

it's just who you are.

just like if you identify as a fit person – you don't have to 'try' to eat healthy. it's just what you do.

and in the same way –

if i identify as someone who is running a $15k/month business… then if i'm NOT doing the things i know this kind of person does…

i have a fucking crisis 🌝

and this is exactly where you want to get to.

because getting the things you want is never about the things itself…

it's about becoming the person who has it.

then that's when things in your life not only start to flow...

but continue to flow.

so…

ask yourself –

what does the person who has the life you want do? and in what ways are you not doing those things now?

because the sooner you close this gap, the sooner it becomes part of who you are…

and the sooner the life you're after just becomes normal.

okay, that's it for today.

you got this.

much love

mau
