Are you enlightened, bro? Hey Reader, mau here… So I went to see Eckart Tolle speak last night. If you don’t know who that is, he’s the guy who wrote the famous book “The Power of Now”. It came out over 20 years ago. I feel like that book is most people’s initiation into the whole “consciousness” wave... And guess what? It’s not surprising the whole talk was about the importance of the present moment. Since you weren’t there, let me give you the rundown and MY take on it… *takes a deep breath trying to figure out where TF to begin* Okay, bear with me here. So as Eckhart put it, we all of have two “I’s”... There’s the “Deep I” – who we ARE. Underneath our personality, labels, and past conditioning… And then there’s the “surface I” – which is who we IDENTIFY with. So, to conceptualize this a bit, let me ask you... If someone asks who you are, what do you say? Well, you’d probably start of by saying your name (which is technically just a sound you identify with). Then, you’d probably go into your past… saying where you grew up, where you went to school, what you do for work, etc… Again – none of these actually represent who you ARE –these are just things that you identify with. Things that make up your “surface I”. But if you were to just STOP thinking – and focus your awareness on the stillness around you… Time would actually stop – in the sense that you’re not thinking about the past or the future… Which means… TIME really only exists when we THINK. When we stop thinking, there is no such thing as time.... Only the present moment. Okay, so I know there’s a few things happening now but hang on, it'll all make sense (I hope)... If your “surface I” is not really YOU, but your past conditioning and personality that you TELL yourself you are… Then the only way to access your “Deep I” – is by NOT thinking. Aka – practicing meditation. Being mindful. Present. Aware. You know when you’re watching a sunset and all you’re experiencing is that sunset? You’re not thinking about the past or the future… just fully in awe at the present moment? Or when you’re running or working on a project, and you lose all sense of who you “are” – and hours seem to pass in minutes? This. This presence – losing yourself in this moment… is your entry point. This is your entry point to a higher consciousness. Because if you can begin to separate your thoughts, impulses, and emotions from YOU by becoming aware of them, you can stop identifying with them… Which then allows pure consciousness to shine through you – illuminating your true self. Or as Eckhart put it, like a lamp shade getting lighter… allowing more light to pass through. And the more you can stop identifying with these these instinctual thought patterns, reactions, and impulses… The closer you get to the divine guidance living inside of you. Inside all of us. You are able to hear better… see better… feel (your intuition) better. You start vibrating in higher resonance with your higher self – tapping into the innate intelligence that knows exactly where you are meant to be at all times. Or in plain terms… living in alignment. And when you do this, when you remove all the energy that isn't really you… and start radiating your authentic frequency… You begin to attract. You begin trust. You begin to move in accordance with this guidance inside of you… Which leads you to exactly the right places, at exactly the right times, to meet exactly the right people… Presenting you the exact opportunities you need to evolve into your higher self and step into your purpose. And guess what? (I learned this last night) THIS IS ENLIGHTENMENT. Enlightenment is NOT this big event. It’s a state of being that is always in the background... It’s a way you move… It’s not attaching yourself to the labels, reactions, and identity you tell yourself you are… It’s allowing consciousness to flow through you… expressing itself in the way you were put on Earth to express. But this ONLY happens when you get out of your own way… and the way to do this, is THROUGH THE PRESENT MOMENT. Hence – The power of NOW. Phew… This shit is deep, man. I know we got a bit woo there. But there really is no other way to put it... This world is energy. We are energetic beings. There is a field of energy and frequency all around us… and when you truly start to not only think of life this way, but experience it this way… Everything changes. Anyways, I hope my interpretation of Eckhart mades sense for you... It's a beautiful fucking day. So I’ll leave you with this… How can you make being present more of a conscious habit in your every day life? This is where it all begins. Love mau |
